Watson Bay

As an international student, traveling while studying is a common thing to do during the period study abroad. Especially in Sydney, a metropolitan with lots of places of interest and beautiful natural scenery. Since the public traffic fee is $2.5 during Sunday which is quite reasonable for uni student,  I made a trip to the east of Sydney and spent the afternoon mainly in Sydney's very first frontier to the Pacific Ocean, Watson Bay. It won't take more than 30 minutes to reach Watson Bay from Circular Quay by wharf. As one of the earliest colonies in Sydney region, several old churches could be found here as well as some luxurious villas belong to the rich. Walking for a few kilometers towards east, the Pacific Ocean can be seen. To be honest, I come from a coastal city, which is set beside the Pacific Ocean as well. But I have to say that all these rough cliffs that forms the coast line and the pure deep blue sea water are spetacular. I had to return home a little earlier, so I didn't have a chance to see the sunset on the Ocean, it's such a shame.  I think it won't be the last time for me to be here ,  not just for the sunset , but sometimes it's necessary to have a break while you have assignments to do. It really helped refresh my mind and get ready for the next challenge. Anyway, it has been a wonderful day for me. Here are some pictures taken by me.

Dan Murphy's Cheap Booze

As a relatively new university student and a coastie who hasn't yet spent enough time in Sydney to make judgements on its various cafes and hang spots, I have decided
to focus on a student staple and a place I'm guaranteed to visit more than a few times in the coming years: the liqour store.

Specifically, Dan Murphy's here in Erina on the sunny (sometimes) central coast. In my year as an adult both I and my wallet have made the decision to frequent Dans as not only do they have the widest array of drinks containing the devils liquid but also offer the cheapest prices for all of them. It is simply hard to pass up 16 dollars or less for high quality 6 packs of beer and its practically a steal getting a 750mL bottle of vodka for 35 dollars on average.

As a new uni student, I just know that my decision to stick to Dan Murphys will save me a lot of money in the coming years, because I can guarantee most
of my small amount of income will end up being blown far too frequently on alcohol.

Graduation ceremony

During the midterm break, our university make a great graduation ceremony. All of Macquarie university students are dreaming that the graduating day is coming. Starting from the 17th September, lots of students graduate from the university. Firstly, the students invite their parents to Macquarie university. Secondly, These students obtain their certificate from the leader of our university. Later, they guide their parents to know about the university. Finally, they wear the graduation suit and take pictures around the college. In the future, when they see the photos, they will remind the memory in the college, whatever the memory is good or bad. Our current students also help some visitors to travel around the university. It's also a good chance to propaganda our university culture. And we hope that we can also obtain a great graduation ceremony in the future.

Lane Cove National Park

Forget a gym membership! The Lane Cove National Park is close to Macquarie University and it a great way to get your exercise in! It clears the mind so you can get back to focusing on your studies (or Netflix.) And, it's free.

Lane Cove National Park  features some amazing bush walks. Walking along the tracks you can come across wildlife such as lizards and birds and some of the paths will take you down to the river (don’t swim in it though.)

It doesn't even feel like exercise, but it is a great leg work out and depending on  your pace, awesome cardio. The rocky terrain makes it an enjoyable and dynamic work out.

Worried about getting lost?
The paths are clear, and if you remain on a path you will pop out on the street somewhere along the line!

How do you get there?
It’s a short drive from Macquarie University;

If you don’t drive, hop onto the 565 bus from Macquarie University which will take you  right to the area, ask the driver to let you know when you are on Terrace Road and hop off there.

It is a short walk to a clearing on the corner of Terrace and Blaxland where two bush walks start. One takes you down to the Blue Lagoon; a spot where the river trickles through some rocks at the base of a rocky bill.  It’s great fun but be careful not to slip. The other path takes you right through the bush, you will walk under some over-hanging rock and see great views of the park from some high points. You can follow this walk to a number of spots, but a good exit point is the oval at the end of Fiddens Wharf Road.

The walk is one of my favorite things to do -  it is so relaxing and enjoyable! It really feels like you are in a different world, which takes you away from technology, cars and the hustle of university.

A few tips:
  •          Do not bring your dogs! There’s fox bait placed throughout the Park and this is dangerous for dogs.
  •          Do bring a bottle of water  - you don’t want to be stuck in the middle of the park thirsty.
  •          Follow the path, don’t stray from it, for your own safety.
  •      Bring your mobile fully charged in case of an emergency.

Until next time!
Devon.

Macquarie Open day

Hi everyone!

On 12th September, it is a day that for welcoming the others to visit our university. The opening time is from 10 am to 4 pm. The objective for the Open day is to introduce our college to the unknown persons and it can also let the other visitors know some of knowledge. The visit trip is starting from the MUSE. There is a bulletin board which has a timetable about the lectures including science, business and so on. It can help persons to know about the knowledge what they want. The next place is Hub, there are lots of tents, and lots of staff are serving at that place. A lot of staff are the volunteers selected from our university, which is also a great student experience for them in the daily life. The back of the Hub is a gaming placing. People can ride the camel and play chess on the grass. Not far from the Hub, there are many kids doing the chemistry experiments in the tent. The students can help them to learn about the chemistry and make them to enjoy it. The final place is library, there is still some students studying even in the midterm break. We would like the visitors to enjoy the trip of our school. The open day is also beneficial to relax our daily life.

Next year, see you again!

Our Blog Storyboard

 Hi guys,

To give you an idea of what our blog will look like, we've come up with a storyboard to illustrate our ideas! As you can see already, our blog background features a photo of Wally's Walk (taken by Devon) to really give you a taste of what our blog entails. Basically the topic of our blog is about Macquarie Student Life and being Macquarie students ourselves, we want to create a blog that describes places to visit and things to do that will improve students' experiences. This looks at everything from what students can do on and around Macquarie campus, student deals and activities, and much more. To illustrate how our blog will be set out, we've come up with a brief storyboard that reveals a rough layout of our blog.

Our layout features the blog posts on the left hand-side of the page with the text followed by the photo(s). On the right hand-side of the page, you will see the sidebar featuring the 'About Us', followed by an IMAGE gadget (to show who we are) and the 'Blog Archive'. Additionally at the bottom of our page, various other gadgets may be added in at a later date, such as videos, links to other pages, polls, etc.

The template for our blog at current is 'Simple' and allows viewers to easily acknowledge individual blog posts as well as easily navigate across the page. The colour scheme and font is easy on the eyes and makes the blog easy to read, follows along with the general idea we have for our blog topic and it is pleasant to view, with the use of cool colours and nice background imagery.

Additionally, the tags and gadgets we'll be using reflect what is relevant to our topic; such as #macquarie, #student, #lifestyle, #sydney, #university, #study, #studentexperience and things relevant to each post.
Here's a little preview of what you can expect from our future posts. Enjoy!
